For those who don't know, Colleen Troxell, daughter of our daughter Sylvia and Richard Troxell, is our granddaughter (Jeanne and I). She is now 14 years of age and has a number of accomplishments. For openers I have posted a photo of Colleen working at a painting which was to become a portrait of Collette (from a photo). Perhaps Colleen's most celebrated painting to date is also posted. An Austin neighbor bought "The Prayer" and for a rather handsome sum. This gentleman obviously has an eye for budding genius.

Painting Snow Angels

Colleen lives in Austin, TX where snow is extremely rare and never deep. Here she is in Belleville, NE, January 2004. This was taken in the backyard of George and Sylvia Thompson. Sylvia is Jeanne Stickley's sister.

Colleen was delighted with the snow. She couldn't resist plunging into what Nebraska folk take as routine--heavy snow in January. It gave us all a light moment during this family gathering for the funeral mass and burial of Collette Ball, Colleen's great grandmother.

Colleen was the "blond child" in the line "Memories of a blond child playing on the carpet with rainbow colored ponies" from Sylvia Troxell's poem "Empty Spaces"written in remembrance of Collette and Rashleigh."

UIL Award
The Central Texas region includes a group of schools that compete under the auspices of the University Interscholastic League. For the 03/04 school year Colleen won first prize for her self-portrait. In this and other works I have noticed that Colleen has a capacity for capturing the special "look" in the eyes that helps to make each of us uniquely individual.
