Colleen painted from a photograph that she had taken in a homeless shelter in Austin. It was taken on Christmas day last year.

The woman may be staring at nothing in particular. Her expression is not one of fear. Nor is it an expression of the joy that we wish for everyone on Christmas day. The hand over her mouth may be suppressing something. We may all reflect on what we might have been thinking if it had been you or I in that place at that time as a client, that is.

The paintings are evaluated in 5 areas on a scale of 1 to 4. Colleen received:

4 for Purpose
4 for Technique
3 for Personal Expression
3 for Organization
4 for Integration

This totals 18 points. 17-20 points received a rating of IV and an All State Medal. A judge wrote: "Great use of color! your media technical skills are exceptional..."
