Janie & Joe Give a Party

My youngest son, Gene, started '05 on a sound footing on New Year's day, by proposing marriage to Kara Dougherty. Kara extended the winning trend by accepting.

On a very pleasant Spring evening in May Mr. & Mrs. Dougherty (Joe & Janie) graciously opened their home, and some wonderful food and drink, to those who wanted to celebrate this happy engaged state. Mrs. Mary Dougherty, Kara's grandmother, attended along with Kara's brothers and, of course, Joe & Janie.

The Stickleys were well represented, but then the photos will tell you all that.

Irish!   of course  Soda Bread

Among the highlights of the evening was Janie's delicious Irish Soda Bread. Sandy Masse, in particular, asked for Janie's recipe. Janie was good enough to send it to me. So here it is in Janie's own hand.

I will be expecting a report from Sandy. My daughter Sylvia, in Texas, is also expected to make two loaves and bring them in November.

For all other Stickleys making his or her own batch is optional.
